Chris is a great friend and a great photographer. His passion for riding the quiet and beautiful back roads and trails around Santa Cruz is documented by his stellar photos on Instragram @dirtdrops. If you are not familiar yet, you are in for a treat. I find his images inspire me to get out and ride, to look for new spots, to stop and enjoy the grand vistas and tiny details that surround us.

I’ve had the pleasure of building Chris an endurance style road bike, then a Gravel bike, and now a Mountain bike. He opted to outfit it with a Whisky carbon fork, along with Whisky bar, stem, seatpost and carbon rims. He’s got a Fox fork in reserve for when the mood strikes.

We used the limited edition Chris King “Matte Bourbon” color for the headset, hubs, bottom bracket. Chris’s long time mechanic Harry at The Spokesman Bicycles built up the wheels on the carbon rims we had custom painted with the desert tan color band with the logo knocked out. This made the rims unique, cut back on the amount of big logos and color matched the rest of the Whisky parts we painted in Desert Tan, a great compliment to the Bourbon King parts. We used the Topo pattern etching on the frame over anodized “bronze” logos and details.

Other parts in the build : 29×2.6″ front tire, 29x.25″ rear tire, Shimano Deore XT 12speed drivetrain and 4 piston disc brakes with 180mm rotors. Custom Titanium headset spacer. Oury grips, Andrews King cages in titanium with matching anodized details and satin finish.
